Apparity’s robust Discovery gives an organization unparalleled insight into its End User Computing Application (EUCA) environment, giving an organization the ability to answer the crucial question: “What is out there?”.
Often, organizations know that they rely on EUCAs, but they do not have an adequate understanding of the scope. Apparity Discovery addresses this gap by scanning an organization’s file storage locations, such as shared drive, SharePoint and Open Text, and providing a comprehensive list of files meeting specified parameters. Every scan captures information individual files as well as their structural details and whether or not they contain sensitive information.
If files need to be further analyzed or registered after being reviewed, Apparity provides a Registration module that supports this process. In addition to Discovery, Apparity offers the following related features:
Apparity’s Connection Explorer provides users with a dynamic graphical representation of inbound and outbound connections within an application. This feature works in tandem with Discovery to identify and display interconnectedness, thus helping map dependencies. Using the Discovery data, Connection Explorer goes further to visually chart interconnectivity in an interactive interface. The design of this feature allows an organization to identify EUCA networks and chart data sprawl.
As Discovery scans an environment, the results are automatically populated in the Apparity Inventory Management System (AIMS). Discovered files are grouped by an algorithm that can detect when files are copies of a single application, allowing an organization to review an application as a whole instead of having to review multiple file versions separately. This is an incredible benefit when reviewing thousands, or hundreds of thousands, of files. In addition to correlating files by similarity, the Discovery module provides granular filtering and sorting tools to allow you to find EUCAs that need a deeper human assessment.
Configurable Complexity Rating Algorithm
The Structural Complexity of files within an organization is determined by a customizable algorithm defined by the organization. Apparity is able to take any of the file attributes gathered during Discovery and add them to this algorithm, so that files are separated into high, medium and low structural complexity. The benefits of this assessment are numerous and can vary by organization. Some organizations use Structural Complexity to determine the level of EUCA controls required, others to determine which files require transfer to certain IT or EUCA teams, and some use Structural Complexity as one input of a larger, qualitative risk assessment.
Discovery Data Integration
Apparity understands that modern businesses rely on data analysis and business intelligence. Apparity provides multiple ways to export or access Discovery data in your own custom applications, business intelligence tools, or other enterprise applications.
